Hello, lovelies! It’s Donna here with you today and I’m super excited to be sharing my first project for the Bad Girls Couture Design Team! The Pink Canvas Art Journal I used is the “Paper Doll Palace”. It has a lot of pages perfect for mixed media. I worked on one of the canvas pages for my project today and I used a lot of the Haute Mess paints too! I just couldn’t get enough of those beauties! The colors are amazing. You have vibrant, bold and soft in this batch of product release. I can’t wait for more in the future!

I used one of the canvas pages and I prepped it with Gesso first before building up the paint layers one by one. It would help to use a heat gun to dry them before you add two or more paints but I preferred to spread them while they’re still a bit wet. The consistency of the paints is amazing, so smooth like butter.

Planned to use this art journal to the fullest with the hope that it will inspire me to create more art, just because. That’s why I started with this theme, I wanted to be braver in my creative journey and sometimes a gentle reminder like this can spark one’s imagination.

Altered Wall Art using the Haute Mess Acrylic Paints

Good morning bad girls! I am so excited to finally share this altered wall art piece I created for my scraproom. I was able to create this fun piece with just a few gorgeous paints, paint brush, 4×4 piece of cardstock, fabric, stencil, butterfly punch, a button and a 4″x4″ frame. For this piece, I selected 4 different paints from the Haute Mess acrylics, but feel free to use more! God knows, there are about 27 gorgeous colors to chose from in the shop! It was definitely hard for me to narrow my selection down to 4 paints. LOL

I used four different Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Paints to create this little gem which includes Kiss and Don’t Tell, Oops! My Bad!, X-Rated, Drop Dead Gorgeous. See them all here! Which ones are your favorite?

How to:

  • Cut 12×12 piece of white cardstock to measure 4″x4″.
  • Select 4 bottles of the Haute Mess Acrylic paints as desired.
  • Using a stencil, small paint brush and the acrylic paints, color patterns onto the cardstock.
  • Allow paint to dry for 5 minutes (these paints dry super fast!)
  • Cut a piece of fabric to desired size and glue the fabric to the center of the painted cardstock.
  • Punch a butterfly image from a scrap piece of patterned paper and adhere it to the center of the fabric using fabri-tac or Tombow glue.
  • Then glue a small button to the center of the butterfly.
  • Insert decorated cardstock inside of a 4×4 frame of choice.

Inspire Me: Altered Frame

Hello crafty friends! It’s Rae, and today I am sharing a project I made using some items from the March scrapbook kit, and some things from my stash. I collect images of color palettes on Pinterest and all over the internet. Here’s the color palette that inspired me:

 

Here’s what I came up with:

 

The green paper from the kit was perfect for this palette, so that was what I started with as my base. I have picture frames that I am not using, so I decided to use one for this project- I painted one that was 8 X 10 in size. I started with black gesso, and then dry brushed the pink paint from the March kit. Here’s a close up of what the finish looks like:

I added some large roses from my stash to each of the corners. The green leaves are made from the green ribbon in the kit- I sewed them for added dimension.

For center of the design, I added the red playing cards from the March kit in a way that they look fanned out. The ribbon is also from the kit. The small green flower petals are also from the kit and the cover up the cows on the cards, which didn’t really go with this design, and it  helps blend the green with the rest of the design of the frame. The heart and the crown are from my stash. I painted the heart, which was white to start, with the pink paint from the kit, then added some pink wax to give it a mottled look. I added one of the Prima Marketing Junkyard Findings metal pieces “Home” to the heart.

Hello my creative girls! The March Kit “With Sprinkles On Top” is so bright and life-affirming! I really love bright colors))) A juicy juicy photo and this bright striped sheet inspired me to a new page! I decided to combine a white sheet and a striped sheet:American Crafts – Glitter Girl Collection- Work Hard for the background of my layout. I cut two triangles from the patterned sheet of paper. 

First I glued one triangle into a strip on a white sheet. Then I placed the photo in the upper right corner. A strip of black and white scotch I selected the lower border of the photo.

Then I glued a second triangle into the white background to the white background. I had a small distance between the triangles, leaving a white strip of background.I liked this geometry. It is very fortunate that the photo also has strips. I cut out a rose from the patterned set paper. It has several layers. For leaflets, I also used two different sheets of paper with a pattern and made them from different sheets of paper. Small black enamel points are important accents in the layout. They lead a look to the photo. Strips on the patterned paper are very active and it is important to attract the look to the photo! A small coral banner with the inscription Perfect maintains the bright color of the dress in the photo. These techniques in work help to create harmony in the combination of colors in the project.

I always use in my work part of the sheet of patterned paper on which there is a patterned border on one side, and on the other hand information on the collection is placed. This is where the barcode stands. For work, I used a strip of yellow with hearts. she looks very nice next to the photo.

Inspired By My Loves…

Every year, I create a mini album all about what I am loving right here, right now about my family. February is the month I do this, as it is the month of love, after all!

So, with the little Chipboard album included in this month’s kit, I set to work crafting up a book all about “My Loves.”

I painted most of the album white, then covered the front and back with that awesome frame paper from the kit. Then, I layered it up with some stenciling using the Molding Paste and the Prima Stencil from the kit, followed with some layered chipboard, thread, and sequins (from my stash).

The interior chipboard pages were covered with personal photographs, layered with chipboard pretties. And, I made sure to leave room for journaling!

Lots of fun fussy cut flowers, and I had to put a bird on it too :)

Lovely, indeed!

Over the Rainbow Love

This page was totally inspired by those beautiful bohemian flower halos and crowns that are so beautiful and colorful.  I was using a photo of my husband and I at a fancy anniversary dinner we had on our 15 year anniversary cruise.  The dress I was wearing was very colorful and abstract so I wanted the page to reflect that color and the love and feeling we were experiencing at that dinner.

I came across this beautiful photo of a couple, presumably a wedding photo.  The woman was wearing a wonderful flower crown.   This is the feeling I had that night, and perfect inspiration for this page!

To create the flower crown look, I got to work looking through my stash and found a great stencil that worked well with my gesso.  I applied the gesso with a pallet knife and once dry I was able to paint it with the Tattered Angels paints from the kit (the gold is from a previous kit) and I accented the leaves with some green water color.

Next I wanted to add some dimensional flower accents to the page.  I removed the center from one of the silk flowers in the kit and used just one layer of it.  I folded it in half and applied a generous layer of Bad Girls Couture gesso to the flower.  Next I layered a little of the teal Tattered Angels paint for added color and depth.  Then I mixed some texture beads and gesso and applied that to the outer edges of the flower and gave the entire thing a little watered down brown acrylic paint touch with some finger painting.  I sewed the flower down to the paper to secure it and add some interest.  For the center I just painted a couple of the chipboard cutouts with the Tattered Angels paint and dabbed a bit of the textured gesso mix with my finger.

The title is a couple of the 7 Dots stickers, layered with an American Crafts foam glittered word from last month’s kit.

I did the same treatment as with the flowers on leaves at the bottom with the textured gesso mix and give it a brown wash as well.

Using a photo or an object is such a great inspiration since we have so many beautiful things around us to inspire us and these 7 Dots papers are so colorful and versatile that they can go from muted to blazing color!  That’s enough to fuel your creativity!

Off the Beaten Path

There is so much inspiration in this kit!  I mean look at these beautiful colors in those 7 Dots papers!

The deep saturation of teals and greens inspired this page.  I absolutely had to use this beautiful paper “Aquamarine” 7 Dots paper as a bold colorful background.  As I was thumbing through my already printed pics that are waiting to be scrapped I found the perfect match.  This picture of my husband and I sitting on the dock of a beautiful Mexican cenote just jumped out at me and the colors of the paper really brought me back to that day when I placed the photo on it.  I was smitten and completely inspired!

In order to carry the color and feeling of that experience through to the entire page I used a layer of one of the flowers to create a great dimensional grouping.  I folded the flower layer up so it looked more like an emerging bud (I stapled it at the base to hold it in that shape) and painted the entire thing with Bad Girls Couture gesso.  I was just about dry before I added a brush of color with some of the teal Tattered Angels paint then I applied some watered down brown acrylic paint to give it a more blended, muted effect.  After that had pretty much dried I brushed the tips with some Mod Podge and applied some thick glitter.

I added layers of the 7 dots papers cut into great flower and leave shapes with my Sizzix.  You can see I used a few left over Prima flower buds from a previous kit that seemed to work perfectly with this little flower.

And how handy where those 7 Dots Word Stickers?!  I loved them, really!  I choose two that best described that day and adventure and used one as a title (applied to another 7 Dots sticker and then pop dots added for dimension) and one as an accent at the bottom of the page.   The lace border is created using a Fiskers punch and the 7 Dots paper.

Oh and how can I forget the Hambly velum?!  It really gives depth and softness to the page.  I love it!!  And of coarse I had to ink it all up with some brown ink.

Inspiring Pilgrimage

Every year, my mother and I go on a tour of historic homes in our little town… The Holiday Pilgrimage. It is so fun! I don’t have a photo, as they don’t allow you to take pictures. But, I do have the program from the tour and wanted to scrap up a page about this fun time my mom and I have together.

To get started, I was equally inspired by the architecture of the tour and the fun little drawings from the old book page included in the kit…

That little girl kinda sums up how you feel on the tour! You are excited, and tired… all at the same time! HA!

I layered that book page up on some of the 7Dots paper that reminded me of architecture and created a pocket that the tour book could go in, along with my journaling.

I also cobbled together a mix of alphas from my stash and doodled some houses on top for added whimsy.

A flair badge from the kit, along with some paper that I scribbled on and a few sequins from my stash, pulls it all together.

Oh, and of course… some stitching and some of the chipboard paint splatters help to reinforce the movement of the little girl on the book paper

Good morning! Happy Monday! I have another bright and colorful layout to inspire you with today. I used this image from Pinterest. I love white, teal and orange together and there was plenty of it in this month’s kit so I had fun with it!

For the background, I used the watercolor paint from the September kit. Once the triangles were dry, I took the blue watercolor paint and tapped the brush all over the paper to create a fun, colorful background for my layout.

Here is what I came up with. Lots of layering here. Initially, I was going to paint the white “family” thicker, but decided to leave it white. I think I have enough color on this layout, what do you think?

I used the same ribbon technique as last Monday! Totally, fun.

I cut the heart from the patterned paper and painted it with blue watercolor to use as an embellishment for my layout. I think it frames the photo nicely with the felt flower and button.

Here is a closer look at the painted triangles. Don’t they look cool? I think I need some more of these 12×12 stencils by Prima!

We Love This

Happy New Year!!! It’s hard to believe that another year has flown by. What the heck happened to 2017? It seems like I blinked and now it’s 2018. Today, I have a colorful layout to share with you using an image I found on Pinterest as inspiration.

I was inspired to use lots of blues and pink on my layout! Oh, and I LOVE that butterfly pillow. GORGEOUS. I wonder if I can find that pillow somewhere. For the background of my layout, I sprayed white cardstock with light blue mist. Once it was dry, I used a stencil and a darker blue to create a fun Damask background.

I love ribbon! I used the green and blue ribbon to add a little funk to this layout. LOVE how it looks. I used a mini stapler to staple the ribbon on to the bottom of the card. I stapled one end, then pulled back the ribbon to cover the staple, stapled randomly a little to the left of the ribbon, then pulled the ribbon right and repeated the process again to create the ripples.

Here are a few close-ups. This layout is so pretty. Well, at least, I think so. It’s so different from what I am used to creating… Every now and then, I like to mix it up a bit. I layered the felt flower with a purple flower from the September kit.

I didn’t like how the end of the blue ribbon looked without the button. It looked too plain so I pulled a blue button from my stash and some pink ribbon and hand sew the button on to the ribbon. It turned out just how I saw it in my mind… Love when that happens.
