Vintage Butterfly Clip Upcycle

Hey Bad Girlies!!  Happy Weekend!!  I hope you are feeling your art vibe and if not, no worries…I want to inspire you to go paint something!  Anything!  Today I’m digging in my vintage jewelry stash and pulling out an old butterfly clip to repurpose!

Below you can see the old clip before I started.  It was pretty but had seen better days, so I thought I’d give it a bit of Haute Mess color to amp it up a bit!

I started out by painting the entire thing with a thick coat of “Bad & Tatted” and allowed to dry completely. (you can speed this up with a drying tool to go to the next step)

Next I brushed on a tad of water so the paint would flow easier then added some light strokes of “Make it Rain” towards the center of the butterfly body and fanning out to the wings.

Once that “Make it Rain” layer dried I moved on to add some light strokes of “Hippie in High Heels”, again starting with a little bit of a wet surface to make sure the paint moved around easily and fanned it out from the body to the wings but making sure not to cover up all that beautiful purple tone.

Finally I added some dashes of “Kiss & Don’t Tell” (this is my favorite color in the line) and followed the same technique with the damp surface, working from the body and fanning up the wings.  This time I kind of brushed a bit of the watered down paint over the whole wing but it doesn’t show up much in the pictures.  I also painted the center stones with the “Kiss & Don’t Tell”.

To add some texture and dimension I added some Haute Mess Glass Bead Gel to the edges of the wings with a pallet knife and allowed it to dry a few hours.

As a finishing touch I rubbed the entire piece with some rose gold acrylic before punching a whole in the wing and hanging it on a chain.

“Grow” | Art Journal Page Tutorial

Hello everyone! It’s Donna here to share my latest project.

For my project today, I created a soft colored background to mimic the serenity of the theme I wanted to achieve.

This is the first time I used Mannequin and Plastic Angel and I fell in love! Paired with some blues and greens, the result was amazing.

I created texture by dry brushing the acrylic paints and using a stencil and modeling paste.

Watch the process video HERE.

*I apologize in advance as the first part of the video is too bright.*

I hope you liked today’s post! Thank you for dropping by and happy crafting!

I really think I’ve developed somewhat of an addiction to these mini canvases!  For this one I had just gotten the coolest Sculpty face mold that I just had to use with some paper clay.  I had visions of these cool clay faces all textured and painty and gritty on a sweet little canvas and I got out right gitty!  So I got to work.

For details on how I created it, check out this process video.

Thumbelina in a tin of canned fish by Elena

Hello to all! A huge welcome to you my Bad Girls friends!

Bad Girls Couture carefully relates to ecology and environment. Therefore, every Thursday our designers show how to make interesting art objects out of garbage.

I have long wanted to decorate the oval jar of sprat :))) Therefore, when among the variety of choices of canned food in the store ceases question what brand to take. I don’t have any doubts! Oval only :)))

To begin with, we ate sprats and washed the jar twice in the dishwasher. Then a couple of layers of Premium White Gesso and thorough drying.

Another “like garbage” – the dried seed pods of a tree peony. However, they are very similar to exotic flowers! Added them color and brightness with the help of paints: Guild Trip,Torrid, X-Rated

Chipboard painted with natural shades of colors:C-Note, Distortion, Dive Bar , Drama Queen, Million Dollar Baby

Painted the bottom of the jar. Drew tropical leaves.

Made here is such mushrooms from paper and wire.

After all the items are properly dried. I started to assemble the composition.

Put on the bottom of the green sisal, glued flowers, chipboard and walnut shell. By the way, the shell gave me the idea of the plot. After all Thumbelina the whether slept, whether swam in that shell :))) No matter how-that she probably used :)))

On chipboard glued painted the gauze with a  Clear Gesso

Added a picture of a girl

Sprinkle glitter and art – stones

Ready! That’s the result of my work!
Do not rush to throw something is not necessary! A little fantasy. and you will get an unusual and unique work!

Thank you for visiting, have a lovely crafty day!

“You Are Loved” Mixed Media Art Journal Page

Good morning, lovelies!  It’s Dale Ann, back with another art journal page for Colour Splash Wednesday! For my page today, I’m going to show you some different ways I used my Haute Mess Molding Paste to create textural interest on my page! There are many different ways to use it and apply it, but I prefer using an old credit card.

I had cut out a shell type pattern on my Cricut to push some Molding Paste through for the first layer on my page. I decided to add some “Sweet Candy Kisses,” from the Haute Mess Paint Collection to the paste, cause this girl loves her some pink! So I mixed it together and then scraped it on!

I really wasn’t sure where I was going with the page at this point, but I decided to tone down the pink with some Haute Mess Gesso.

I remembered after I did that, I had some new scrapbook paper I bought over the weekend,( for 50% off btw, thank you Hobby Lobby!)  It’s all these shabby pink and black & white papers with handwriting, with just the right amount of shabby grunge on them!  I knew they would be perfect for this page! Suddenly I had a vision for this page!  Tore off some pretty parts and used the Haute Mess Matte Gel  Medium to apply it, under and on top!

After sticking that down I used a Distress Crayon to add some color to the stitching around the edges of the page.

Since I love the combination of pink, black and white, I added some of my favorite washi tape, stuck that on, then I grabbed my brayer (rollie paint spreader thingy) and my Haute Mess “Porcelain Doll” pink, and rolled some of it around the page. This made the paint application more random.

Since it is Colour Splash Wednesday, how about adding some Haute Mess “Drop Dead Gorgeous” to the mix? I love this color!

Did you know that these paints are created by hand in small batches right here in the United States?  Each adorable jar is numbered by the batch, to ensure product freshness!  One of my favorite things about these paints is you can tell how Wendy and her team put so much love and artistry into each jar of paint! You can really see the heart of the creator, who is herself a mixed media artist, in these products. Wendy worked really hard to bring us beautiful paints, mediums and Art Journals that would not only be safe for the environment, but that would also be a joy to create with!

I found these little heart cutouts laying on my desk that were left over from another project, and I knew they would be perfect for this page. I of course painted them in “Couture Pink,” immediately. LOL

Then my Haute Mess Molding Paste started calling my name again . . . so I grabbed this bird stencil and my credit card, and made some little birdies on my page!

I ended up putting three layers of molding paste through the stencil to get a really good raised image. They turned out so cute, I think!

You can see I also scraped some Molding Paste around the heart cutouts, it kind of looks like snow drifts on them!

My final steps were to add some pieces of a scalloped cutout I had left over from something else on to the corners of the page, and my sentiment that is from Illustrated Faith.  I wanted this page to remind us all that we are most definitely loved! Every single human, no matter what color your skin is, what religion you are, where you live or what you look like, YOU ARE LOVED by the Creator of the Universe! So go ahead, live like you’re loved!

Another thing I would like to bring to your attention, is the sweet script that was on the scrapbook paper I had collaged on. . . it kind of got hidden by paint. However, if you’ll remember I had put the Matte Gel medium on top of it. That acts like a protective barrier. So I was able to take a baby wipe and wipe some of the paint away to reveal more of the script in the final piece!  These products are all so versatile!

Here is the final page. I hope you like it!

The products used in this page are as follows:

Haute Mess Paper Doll Palace Art Journal

Haute Mess Acrylic Paints in: Sweet Candy Kisses, Broken Doll, Drop Dead Gorgeous and Couture Pink

Haute Mess Mediums:  Molding Paste, Matte Gel Medium, White Gesso

Vintage Art-journal page with Elena + Tutorial

Happy Wednesday!! A huge welcome to you my Bad Girls friends!

Today I’m working with two gesso and many paints to create a  mixed media page in my “COBBLESTONE LANE” Art Journal.

I chose to decorate Canvas page.

This time I decided to remember that time, when I tried decoupage.

I still have a small collection of napkins with interesting drawings.

Why not try to use them when creating a page in an Art Journal?

All the more in Art Journal from Bad Girls there is page reminiscent of a canvas.

Dense cardstock and primed fabric.

First I made one layer of Clear Gesso. Then pasted pieces of pages from the old dictionary and a layer of napkins for decoupage.

It is better not to cut pictures from napkins, and tear them off. So the edges are more thin and uneven, which will better implant them in the background.

Added another coat of Clear Gesso.

Added strokes with Premium White Gesso to muffle the bright color of the pieces of paper and combine them together.

Once everything was dry, I complicated the background with stamps and archival ink.

Applied a Molding Paste through a stencil

Now it’s time to use paint! I chose these shades:

I didn’t like that the edges are too much white, so I tinted them with Bad & Tatted .
Added a little splashes

I was satisfied with what turned out to be a page, but something was missing…

So I decided to revive it with bright green paint Million Dollar Baby,

and purple Hippie In High Heels

Added sticker by 7 Dots Studio.

I love to use napkins for decoupage. That I’ve put a few more on hold for the next projects!

I hope you were interested and you also decide to try my way to create pages in an Art Journal!

and some close-ups

Well that is all from me today.
Until next time happy scrapping.

“I Am Transformed” Journal Page

Happy Monday Y’all!!  I hope you are having an inspiring start to your week!  Today I’m going to share a journal page I did that was inspired by some awesome paper butterfly cutouts that I’ve just been hanging on to for just the right project!

For this one I gessoed one of the cardstock pages in my Haute Mess Couture Journal and began applying matte gel under and over the cutouts to adhere them to the page.  Then stenciled molding paste and layered on various Haute Mess Acrylic paints and blended with water.  Finally I finished it off with a stamped title, accented with some Haute Mess Glass Bead Gel, rubbed on some metallic and splattered on some blue liquid ink.  Curious?  Well check out my process video I did for you!  Check out the link below!

Art Journal My Hero + VIDEO

Hello scrappy friends!

It’s Elena here today to share my  page in “COBBLESTONE LANE” Art Journal.

It has a Cream colored canvas cover.

I chose to decorate Vintage Music page.

It consists of a sheet of thick cardboard and a sheet of real music,

which are glued and stitched on the edge.

You can watch the full process video for this page

https://youtu.be/1WXrgyAs_1Y

The photo for the page is not chosen by chance. It depicts a Russian rock singer Zemfira.

She also writes lyrics and music. I love her sensual and soulful songs.

I used several shades of paint to combine the photo and the background into one.

Used Clear Gesso to glue the mini-sequins on.

They are like notes or streams of music scattered on the page

Added the appropriate meaning of the quote stickers by 7 Dots Studio.

I have used the following Products:

Field Journal with Haute Mess Matte Gel Medium Tips & Tricks + VIDEO

Hello all!
It’s Lisa here today to share my latest page in my gorgeous
Park Ave Penthouse Journal
‘Field Journal’

I also have some tips and tricks on different ways to use Matte Gel Medium.
I love my matte gel! The first and main way that I use this medium is mixed with my Haute Mess Acrylic Paints.
The Matte Gel Medium adds texture to your dried acrylic paints.

It doesn’t really change the consistency to your paint
but you are able to leave texture with brushes or palette knives.

When you first mix it, it may lighten your paint colour, as the gel is white,
but don’t fear this is temporary as it dries clear and your colour is the same.

For this page I have started with a coat of Haute Mess Clear Gesso.

I have built up my paint layers using Matte Gel Medium mixed with Haute Mess Acrylic Paints in natural colours.

I have also used the Molding Paste to stencil in some fern leaves.

The second way that I have used my Matte Gel Medium,
was to adhere my vintage sewing pattern pieces to my page.
It dries matte and clear and allow my to build up some texture.

You can watch the full process video for this page below
