I’ve got a fun technique with Haute Mess media!  I created this sweet scrapbook page about my boys with lots of subtle blues and browns. The brick wall in the photo was my inspiration for the background of my page.

On white cardstock, I started by brushing Haute Mess paint in Dive Bar in a large area.  Once that dried, I used a brick stencil to add Haute Mess White Gesso with a sponge applicator.  It was applied pretty thick.

Once dry, I brushed on Haute Mess paint in Last Sin.   Spritz with water and wipe away from the Gesso.  The Gesso resists the paint for a subtle color wash.  It gave the paper a patina with the light blue tone.  I love the texture that the sponge gave the bricks.

Once I adhere all my papers, rub ons, embellishments and photo, I added some more texture with a stencil and the Haute Mess Molding Paste with a palette knife.

I love how the modeling paste kept it’s height and stays exactly as you put it down when dry!  It’s smooth and creamy … just delish!

Using the Haute Mess media makes me so incredibly happy and I’m sure I will find more ways to use them on a variety of projects!

Altered Globe using the Haute Mess Acrylic Paints

Hello! Elena here! Today I’ll show you how to use paints and gesso to make a real design thing from an ordinary school globe!

To begin with, I circled the borders of the continents with a volumetric marker. Because I’m going to paint over the whole globe.

I needed to keep the shape of the continents for later painting.

When the contour is completely dry, I covered the globe and the stand with several layers of gesso.

It created a rough surface, but I liked it so much.

As you can see the contours of the continents were visible, and I do not have to draw them myself!

Then I made the final coat of paint Fallen Angel for the oceans.

I wrapped the ball with cling film and painted the leg with paint Bad & Tatted

Metal gears are also painted on one side with black paint Bad & Tatted , and on the other covered with two layers of embossing powder

At the equator I stuck inspirational inscriptions are from 7 DOTs.

A little painted with black liner and glued mini-sequins with Clear Gesso .

Textured Sea Glass Canvas featuring Haute Mess Molding Paste

Hey guys!  Michelle here!  I’m excited to show you a fun way to use your Haute Mess Molding Paste in a great on trend home decor art project today!

For this project you will need a small canvas, Haute Mess Molding Paste, Haute Mess Glass Bead Gel, Haute Mess Matte Gel, Haute Mess Acrylic paints in your color choice (I used Drop Dead Gorgeous and Make it Rain), a hot glue gun, a pallet knife and coarse glitter.  You may also want to have a heat gun or blow dryer to speed up drying times.

I started by applying my Molding Paste with with the pallet knife to the canvas, making sure to leave lots of texture but thin enough that it won’t take forever to dry.  (use a heat gun or hair dryer to speed up drying if needed)

Next I began applying the acrylic paints. I stared in the center with the darker color (Make it Rain) and blended the lighter color (Drop Dead Gorgeous) with water while both paints were still wet.  I feathered the paints at the top and bottom as well and kind of gave the paint a watered wash over the top and bottom of the canvas, leaving the saturation of color more towards the center.  Again I set a side to dry (or you can speed up the drying with a drying tool).

When dryer completely I stacked and applied the sea glass, securing it to the canvas with hot glue.

Finally I added the finishing touches by giving it more texture with the Haute Mess Glass Bead gel first and then later adding some Matte Gel to some of the cracks to nestle some coarse glitter in for extra sparkle.  I also added a slight rub of some metallic rose gold paint for some shine as well.

I love how this make such an impact like a high end piece of art and how you could easily mix it up with all sorts of other options and combinations!  I know you will have a blast playing around with these techniques!

Altered Wall Art using the Haute Mess Acrylic Paints

Good morning bad girls! I am so excited to finally share this altered wall art piece I created for my scraproom. I was able to create this fun piece with just a few gorgeous paints, paint brush, 4×4 piece of cardstock, fabric, stencil, butterfly punch, a button and a 4″x4″ frame. For this piece, I selected 4 different paints from the Haute Mess acrylics, but feel free to use more! God knows, there are about 27 gorgeous colors to chose from in the shop! It was definitely hard for me to narrow my selection down to 4 paints. LOL

I used four different Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Paints to create this little gem which includes Kiss and Don’t Tell, Oops! My Bad!, X-Rated, Drop Dead Gorgeous. See them all here! Which ones are your favorite?

How to:

  • Cut 12×12 piece of white cardstock to measure 4″x4″.
  • Select 4 bottles of the Haute Mess Acrylic paints as desired.
  • Using a stencil, small paint brush and the acrylic paints, color patterns onto the cardstock.
  • Allow paint to dry for 5 minutes (these paints dry super fast!)
  • Cut a piece of fabric to desired size and glue the fabric to the center of the painted cardstock.
  • Punch a butterfly image from a scrap piece of patterned paper and adhere it to the center of the fabric using fabri-tac or Tombow glue.
  • Then glue a small button to the center of the butterfly.
  • Insert decorated cardstock inside of a 4×4 frame of choice.

Mixed Media Journal Cover

Hey y’all!  Michelle here and I’ve got a fun journal cover project to share with you today!  I really just went for it with all the amazing new paints and mediums!  The journal is the new Cobblestone Lane Canvas journal that you will soon be seeing in the Bad Girls shop so keep your eye out for it.  You are so gonna love the diversity this journal is going to give you and the texture…ohhhh the texture!

So this is my journal, I started by using the white gesso in the area just inside of the vintage zipper that I later glued in place and then layered on the new (gorgeous) Haute Mess acrylic paints.  (Haute Mess paint colors used:  Grunge, C-Note, Kiss & Don’t Tell and Distortion)

I mixed texture sand in with Bad Girls Molding Paste and applied it in various places and then gave it a color wash with some diluted “Distortion” Haute Mess acrylic paint.  Even more texture was added with the glass bead gel and then finally I applied the clear gel and sprinkled some coarse glitter in various places.

I also gessoed then painted and highlighted the metal butterfly charm with some of the acrylic paints as well (“C-note” & “Distortion”.  I really like how it came out.  I just hot glued the zipper and all my vintage pieces in place to ensure they wouldn’t fall off with all the wear and tear a journal will get.

Repurposed “Bee”utiful Cuff

Hello to all of you beautiful, creative people!  I am so very excited to be posting my first project for Bad Girls Couture Design Team!  So, for my first project, I upcycled/ repurposed a toilet paper roll tube. Yes, a blank tube was transformed into a beautiful, wearable art cuff. I pulled some sticky backed canvas from my stash.  I created a video of my process for you!

 

 

Just a few tips that I found in creating this… reinforce your tube with some thin metal to keep the shape better.   I also punch a hole and tied ribbon in each end to hold it on better and it looked pretty. I used FabriTac glue… holds ANYTHING!!  If you want to stitch a shape, trace, poke holes evenly around the shape and backstitch.  It’s one of my favorite techniques!

I hope you were inspired by the new media and paints!  Look around your house for something to upcycle!  It’s so fun to turn trash into treasure!
