Junque it Up! Upcycled Cell Phone Case Box

Hello, friends!

Who doesn’t love boxes? I am such a box hoarder- I save all boxes, and while most people think they should go in the trash after opening, that’s the kind of “JUNQUE” that holds a special place in my heart! I save boxes of all kinds so that they can be upcycled, and this box that held a cell phone case is going to be the perfect gift box for my daughter’s new cell phone for her upcoming birthday.

This was just an ordinary white box that got a hefty coat of Bad Girls Couture Gesso- you HAVE to get some- the quality and consistency is PERFECT! There’s a jar of the gesso in this month’s kit, so if you definitely don’t want to miss it- it is a must-have item for all of your projects!

After I primed the box with gesso, I used the flourish Prima Marketing stencil (also in the kit) with some modeling paste in random spots. Once dry, I added some green and grey/black color sprays/mists from my stash. Then, I dried the box with a heat tool and applied the Prima Marketing Metallique Wax in Old Silver over the stenciled modeling paste for nice distressed and blended look.

Now that I had my foundation/background done, it was time to work on the design, which  wanted to somewhat simple and girly. I fussy cut out one of the little ladies from the Prima Marketing “Welcome to Paris” paper, and used the Prima Marketing “French Riviera” paper to die cut a fancy oval.

I used black archival ink to color the little lady from yellow to black for a classic silhouette appearance. I diluted some of the Bad Girls Couture Gesso and gave the oval a lighter appearance, then slightly misted it with a green spray so it would blend in with the colors on the box. Then, I inked the scroll part of the oval with black chalk ink.

I added the Prima Marketing Peridot rhinestone chain- I cut pieces to add larger rhinestones for added interest.

And, because I am hopelessly addicted to flowers, I added some small roses and leaves from my stash.

Lastly, I added a sentiment and put the elastic strap that came with the box to complete the look.
