Repurposed Tin Tile using GLITTER!
Hello, crafters!
It’s Rae with you today, sharing a repurposed tin ceiling (or backsplash) tile. I’ve had this tile for a while in my box of treasures to repurpose or alter. I didn’t know what I was going to do with it when I first got it, but when the December kit came in the mail, I knew this tin tile would be perfect to showcase the colors and glitter collection!
To get started, I pulled out some of my stuff from past Bad Girls Couture kits: the Prima Metallique Wax, and the Bad Girls Couture brand of Matte Gel Medium- OH MY WORD- this is high-quality stuff! I used this matte gel medium for a photo transfer about a month ago, and it works like a charm! It’s a very versatile medium, and in my opinion, one of the best ways to apply to glitter to your projects where it will REALLY STICK!
My first step was to give the dimension some shading using the Prima Metallique wax. I used a small amount with my finger to create this look:
The next step is quite simple, and I didn’t take any pictures, but I simply traced the lines of the patterns using a small brush and matte gel medium, and poured glitter over the matte gel medium. I focused on small sections, using one color at a time. I was fine if some of the glitter came off- I wanted this project to have a faded look to it.
Below is a close up that shows the impact of the Prima Metallique Wax on the whitewashed tile.
The glitter on the white/silver tile needed some added pops of color, and I really wanted to capture the essence of this bold kit, so I used some black glitter from my stash to the Thickers title, “Life is Beautiful” which was gold, but after applying the Thickers, I felt it needed more of a contrast.
I added purple butterflies from the Hambly Screen Prints transparency, which really made the purple colors of glitter used pop.
I added a Prima velvet flower from my stash to balance the “Life is Beautiful” and also because it matched perfectly with one of the blue glitter tubes.
Thanks for checking out the blog today! I hope this gives some ideas on how simple it is to use glitter on projects!
