Today it’s all about re-purposing. Turning trash to treasure! I LOVE this kind of project and today I had the PERFECT base to work with — pieces from old furniture. I loved it for it’s size and exposed hardware but admittedly, it doesn’t look very pretty . . . yet.
Haute Mess mediums helped create a PERFECT surface to work with!
Here, I used gesso and matte gel to collage and prepare the surface. Once the mediums were totally dry, I went in with a pencil and sketched out an idea. Just to give me a place to start!
For that extra texture I used Haute Mess modeling paste and then pushed stamps into it while it was still wet.
These stamped textures really come to life when you start to add paint. I like it because the stamped image isn’t perfectly clear, so it adds some grunge.
Once you have your design sketched out and outlined you can start to add color (the best part!)
Here, I’m using Haute Mess “Plastic Angel”, “Broken Doll” and “Oops! My Bad”
I couldn’t resist taking a photo of all the paint pots lined up, isn’t it a beauty?
Next I’m going to incorporate two of my favorite Haute Mess colors: “Torrid” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous”. As you can see, at this point the portrait is really coming together.
And, I added fun splatters of “Bad Girl Gaudy”:
To finish up, I added in some Prima Art Alchemy Metallique Wax in “Amethyst” and of course – some glitter! I used Ice Stickles Glitter Glue in Pink.
Thanks so much for joining me today for this fun repurpose. I hope it inspires you to take a look around and turn some trash into treasure.
