Happy Monday girlies!!

So I have been patiently waiting to use this beautiful transparency page in my Haute Mess Cobble Stone Lane Journal and today is the day y’all!!  I hope you are loving it as much as I am!  I made you a little video to walk you through the process but first take a peek at the pics.

I used lots of cut out layers from old books and some tulle scraps as well as one of my favorite new A Vintage Girl stamps to stamp the corset.

This page is also heavy on texture with lots of molding paste, glass bead gel and glitter!

Now y’all hop on over to the link below and catch that process video for more details!

And thanks for stopping by today!  Now go make something beautiful!

Throw Kindness Around Like Confetti

Hey guys!  Michelle here and I’m getting all messy in my journal today and I know I say this every time…I am having way too much fun doing it!  Today’s piece didn’t end up anything like my original vision but it’s totally ok because I love how my vision for the page changed as I was working on it.  I did “junque” it up a bit by using a vintage hymnal page as part of my background.  So let me show you how it all came together!

I started out by preparing my page with a nice layer of molding paste

Next I painted over the dried molding paste with a thin coat of the Haute Mess Acrylic paint in “Grunge” and watered down some “Distortion” paint to give it a subtile aged effect.

Once those layers had all dried I moved on to applying the vintage hymnal page by brushing on a thin coat of matte gel under the vintage page and on top.  Again allow to dry before moving on.

Next I applied some strokes of Haute Mess Acrylics in “Last Sin” and “C-Note” with a pallet knife, making sure to leave some texture for added interest.

After that had dried I rubbed and dotted on some gold acrylic with my fingers before applying a thick line of Haute Mess Matte Gel with a brush to the center of towards the bottom of the page.

I then sprinkled coarse gold glitter over the matte gel (do not allow this to dry)

Before this has the opportunity to dry I came back over it and fanned it out with a brush and more matte gel medium.  This forms an anchor for my title and the photo that will go on the page.

Finally I applied some phrase stickers and a cardstock cutout of a vintage girl and inked the whole thing up with a black stamp pad.  Turns out it’s one of my favorite pages now!

Bad Ass Vibe: White Washing a Layout

Hello! It’s Rae, sharing some tips to create a Bad Ass Vibe to your projects! So this December kit was bursting with bold colors, and mixed in with some black and white, which was excellent for balancing all of the colors. I love the look of dark backgrounds with patterns, but sometimes it’s nice to smooth it out, and whitewashing your papers is a great technique for doing that.

My reason for whitewashing this particular layout is that I wanted to use this photo of my kids- it’s a rare occasion when I can get all three of them looking cute and attentive in one shot, and the paper in the kit that had the quote reminded me of this picture I took in 2016- “The little things are the big things.” Such a true, true statement!” However, when I pulled out the picture, I couldn’t see it working with what I had left of the kit, so took a different approach and made the papers work for me.

This technique is so simple: it requires gesso, a small bowl or container, water, and a paint brush.

I stared with creating the first part of my design- layers under the photo. I whatewashed these three pieces first- I diluted some gesso with water in a container, and painted it on. (I also did this to the banners (paper and ribbon)sticking out under the photo, I just didn’t take a picture of that, but it’s the same technique.)

I also whitewashed the background papers the light one sticking out from behind the black paper. Because I was using so much blue/teal, I wanted to blend the colors out to not have such a contrast in the colors.

I added water to the whitewashed paper, then added two different colors of mist. Then, I randomly blended out the mist and water with a wet baby wipe. This is the end result:

Adding the rest of the elements on the page, it all came together. I cut out banners from ribbon and paper. The heart is also cut out from the paper.

You can also see that I used a piece of circle chipboard from my stash- I painted it black, added some blue glitter from the kit while the paint was wet, and once dry, I also whitewashed that. :)

I also added some of the blue mists to the ribbon to make it match better. The texture was great, but the color was slightly off from what I had in mind.

I added a couple of flowers- one of them was from last month’s kit that I added pearls to, but I ended up not using it on any projects last month, but it was perfect for this page, so I added one that was similar to that one from my stash.

Thanks for stopping by the Bad Girls Couture blog today!

Repurposed Tin Tile using GLITTER!

Hello, crafters!

It’s Rae with you today, sharing a repurposed tin ceiling (or backsplash) tile. I’ve had this tile for a while in my box of treasures to repurpose or alter. I didn’t know what I was going to do with it when I first got it, but when the December kit came in the mail, I knew this tin tile would be perfect to showcase the colors and glitter collection!

To get started, I pulled out some of my stuff from past Bad Girls Couture kits: the Prima Metallique Wax, and the Bad Girls Couture brand of Matte Gel Medium- OH MY WORD- this is high-quality stuff! I used this matte gel medium for a photo transfer about a month ago, and it works like a charm! It’s a very versatile medium, and in my opinion, one of the best ways to apply to glitter to your projects where it will REALLY STICK!

My first step was to give the dimension some shading using the Prima Metallique wax. I used a small amount with my finger to create this look:

The next step is quite simple, and I didn’t take any pictures, but I simply traced the lines of the patterns using a small brush and matte gel medium, and poured glitter over the matte gel medium. I focused on small sections, using one color at a time. I was fine if some of the glitter came off- I wanted this project to have a faded look to it.

Below is a close up that shows the impact of the Prima Metallique Wax on the whitewashed tile.

The glitter on the white/silver tile needed some added pops of color, and I really wanted to capture the essence of this bold kit, so I used some black glitter from my stash to the Thickers title, “Life is Beautiful” which was gold, but after applying the Thickers, I felt it needed more of a contrast.

I added purple butterflies from the Hambly Screen Prints transparency, which really made the purple colors of glitter used pop.

I added a Prima velvet flower from my stash to balance the “Life is Beautiful” and also because it matched perfectly with one of the blue glitter tubes.

Thanks for checking out the blog today! I hope this gives some ideas on how simple it is to use glitter on projects!
