Mixed Media Wooden Pumpkin

Happy Saturday Y’all!

Today I’m bringing a fun mixed media project so break out all the things!

I started off with an unfinished wooden pumpkin ornament and I applied a coat of Haute Mess white gesso. Then I applied Molding Paste through a stencil and allowed it to dry before applying a series of color washes in two amazing Haute Mess pink colors, “Couture Pink” and “Sweet Candy Kisses”.

I couldn’t leave good enough alone so I flicked a bit of diluted torrid to the still wet paint and allowed it to bleed into the design. Next I applied Haute Mess glass bead gel and then rubbed on some gold metallic.

Once all the paints were dry I glued all my awesome emblishements on and added some glitters with some Haute Mess Matte Gel Medium.

It sounds like a lot but it really was a quick, fun project!

Happy Monday girlies!!

So I have been patiently waiting to use this beautiful transparency page in my Haute Mess Cobble Stone Lane Journal and today is the day y’all!! I hope you are loving it as much as I am! I made you a little video to walk you through the process but first take a peek at the pics.

I used lots of cut out layers from old books and some tulle scraps as well as one of my favorite new A Vintage Girl stamps to stamp the corset.

This page is also heavy on texture with lots of molding paste, glass bead gel and glitter!

Happy Friday girlies!!

Today I’m mixing things up with some vintage sheet music, a tag, some string and fun embellishments. And of coarse the yummy Haute Mess mediums and acrylic paints.

I started out by using the Matte Gel to apply the sheet music on to my Cobble Stone Lane Haute Mess Journal. Then I smeared on some gold crackle medium I had in my art stash and allowed it to dry well. As that was drying I moved on to my tag.

For the tag I wrapped some twine around the tag and then smeared it with a generous amount of molding paste and allowed it to dry well. You can use a heat tool to speed the drying process up a bit. Once dried I applied some watered down acrylic “Dive Bar” paint.

I then applied the tag as well as my other embellishments on to the page. I painted the ribbon flower with the same watered down “Dive Bar” paint and then painted the center stone with “Drop Dead Gorgeous” as well as doing some dry brushing along the edges of the flower.

I added some Haute Mess Glass Bead Gel and allowed to dry to various places on the page. Next I applied some watered down “Drop Dead Gorgeous” just under the embellishments and added some paint splatters of watered down “Torrid” and “Million Dollar Baby“.

I finished it off with a Tim Holtz paper doll die cut, some title stickers and a metallic gold rub.

Fly Home Mixed Media Journal Page

Happy Tuesday girls!! Ready to get junqie?! So today I’m in my Haute Mess Cobblestone Lane mixed media journal showing you some more ways to incorporate found junk in your journal and make it part of your art work!

For this page, I used some paper packing mesh as well as some old silk flowers I had hanging around. I’m telling you…you can throw just about anything that will fit on a page, cover it in molding paste and texture and it’s beautiful! Art journaling is so much fun when you just look around and this about the possibilities around you!

I’ve made a process video to show you how this page came together but long story short, I just slathered on a bunch of Haute Mess Molding paste under and over that paper packing mesh and used that as my starting point then added the flowers in the same way.

I waited for it to dry then white washed it a bit with “Fallen Angel” Haute Mess Acrylic and once that dried I gave the whole page a coat of Haute Mess clear gesso to prepare if for some color.

For the color I dabbed on some “Make it Rain” Haute Mess Acrylic paint and blended it well with some water.

I applied glass bead gel for texture and added some metallic touches with a rub of gold acrylic. Then I added some Matte Gel to the areas where I wanted to apply the glitter to, sprinkled the glitter and pressed it in well.

I finished the whole thing off with my photo, butterfly embellishments and title stickers.

It really was a fun page. The Molding paste & glass bead gel are my favorite products so I always have a ball and love the results when I use them on a page or project! I hope this encourages you to go find some junk and make it into some fabulous art today!

Altered Fall Sign

Ok, I admit that last time I blogged I was supposed to give you a real repurpose and I didn’t really do that. Today I’m repurposing an old sign I had in my garage that I wan’t loving…one from the Dollar Tree at that and making it into something that I love now and will happily hang on my door!

First I removed all the elements before I began painting it. (You can see the before and the process in the video below). I made it very classic and kinda farmhouse-ish by gessoing it first then giving it a crisp coat of of “Fallen Angel” Haute Mess acrylic paint. Then using a ruler I lightly drew some pencil lines to make it look like wooden boards. I came back over the lines with “Grunge” Haute Mess acrylic paint and a fine brush, making sort of rough and imperfect lines. Next I used foam letter stamps and using the same “Grunge” paint I stamped the word “Thanks” on to the top burlap section of the sign. I then freehand painted the word “Thanks” in the Haute Mess “Bad and Tatted” acrylic paint. Finally I glued it all back together and distressed the edges with some black paint. I added a black letter “S” that I found at the craft store to personalize it for our family. It’s the perfect timeless addition to our home that I know we will use year after year now!

Lucky is a State of Mind

Ok, Ok, so this isn’t a real repurpose…but I had an idea and I rolled with it so bear with me! LOL!

This page is done with Tim Holtz photos and paper dolls but it could totally be done with repurposed old photos! So there is my repurpose! See…I redeemed myself! LOL! Anyway, let me fill you in on my thought process behind this page and how I made it happen.

I’ve had a lot on my mind lately and with the balance of life and juggling different hats so when I came across this phrase “lucky is a state of mind” I had the perfect idea for it. I decided what if I showed my state of mind and what’s on it. What if I could hedge back my little head and show you all that things bouncing around in it.

I started by diluting some “hippie in high heals” Haute Mess acrylic paint and making an abstract poof like shape on the black page of Cobble Stone Lane journal. While it was still some what wet I added some “make it rain” acrylic paint and continued to dab it with water to blend it a bit. Then I blended in a bit of diluted “Torrid” acrylic paint just at the lower left corner of the poof and made some shading.

As it dried I added some Haute Mess glass bead gel to random areas then dripped some Haute Mess “naked” acrylic paint in as well as a bit of gold metallic from my stash. Next I took a plastic gift card and dipped it in a bit of “bad and tatted” acrylic paint and sort of stamped it at different angles to form the design in the corner. Finally, I rubbed the raised glass bead areas with the same metallic gold I used earlier.

Lastly, I applied all my Tim Holtz photos and paper dolls (using pop dots) around the title sticker.

I hope this inspires you to get your paints out and get creative with some old (or reproduction) photos!

Song Bird

Happy Monday y’all!! I hope you are inspired today to create something beautiful! I was inspired this week to create by this amazing sheet music page in my Haute Mess Cobblestone Lane Journal.

For this page I went to my scrap box and grabbed a few things to use that I thought would add interesting texture and layers and convey the feeling I was looking for.

My jumping off piece was this beautiful bird illustration and I just really went from there, gathering scraps of tissue paper and mesh that I liked.

I applied them down with some Haute Mess clear gesso and then secured the mesh down with some Haute Mess molding paste. The background of the page also got a bit of a dry brushing of the “Naked” Haute Mess acrylic paint. I added some extra texture and interest with some Haute Mess glass bead gel in some places and then gave the whole thing a light metallic rub.

The finishing touch was a sweet little die cut butterfly by Tim Holtz.

Stronger Than Yesterday – Clear Canvas

Happy SundayFUNday!! I hope ya’ll are having a fab weekend! Today I’m showing y’all a fun way to do a “canvas” in an unexpected way. A CLEAR canvas!

For this project I used small square of acrylic. The acrylic is actually a clear insert for a welding face shield that I purchased at a welding supply center. I’m sure my husband just loves when I tag along on his hardware adventures lol!

I started off with a rubber stamp that had some distressed lines on it and applied some “bad & tatted” Haute Mess acrylic paint then stamped it on to the acrylic. You can mimic this look by using the side of an old gift card and dip it in a bit of the paint then stamp it on to the acrylic square and just repeat.

I also brushed a little of the same paint along the edges to give it an inked distressed look.

For the embellishments I made a clay key hole embellishment and painted it with a wash of diluted Haute Mess “hippie in high heals” then some diluted “torrid” and rubbed with a bit of “kiss & don’t tell” before apply a touch of the Haute Mess glass bead gel. Finally I applied a rub of gold. I did a similar effect on the key and paint brush as well. The key has a base coat of “bad & tatted” then rubbed with “kiss & don’t tell” and the paint brush has a mix of all the colors i used in the project!

The tag had gold crackle on it previously but I wanted to incorporate it into this project so I applied some of the colors I was using to give it a warm background. I diluted some “torrid” first and then applied some drips of diluted “hippie in high heals” and then rubbed with a smidge of “kiss & don’t tell”.

The whole project is finished off with a Tim Holts paper dolls die cut and a sticker sentiment.

I’m pretty obsessed with the transparency of it! I want to do MOOORRREE of them!

Tea Anyone?

Today I’m ready to junque it up with a fun mini zine project!

I made this mini zine with discarded tea bags. Yes you read that right. I used old tea bags to make a little mini book out of! Now you probably remember that I used a tea bag in a previous project when I was doing a journal page in my Haute Mess Mixed Media Journal. This time I just thought how cute they would look all stacked and bound together as a little mini. So my wheels got turning.

You can see from the pictures here that I stacked all the bags up and bound them together with some embroidery floss, but not before giving them each a good treatment with some Haute Mess Matte Gel. After I let that dry I began assembling my mini. I also added some funky Tim Holtz vintage photo strips and some word stickers. You could embellish this in so many fun ways.

To tie it all together I used a couple of the tea bag tags (with the string still attached) and glued them to the inside covers.

This is the amazing Haute Mess paint colors that brought my beautiful clay embellishment to life.

And this is the wonderful Haute Mess Mediums that you just have to have handy when approaching a project like this.

Nothing to Bark At

It’s Sunday Fun Day y’all! I hope you’re doing something beautiful;)

Today I’m bringing new life into something discarded. I recently had a city work crew doing some digging and working on plumbing in my yard…in the process they scuffed up some bark on trees. While I was out there cleaning things up I was just so struck by how beautiful these bits where that I scooped them up and saved them for just the right piece.

I began by applying some Haute Mess molding paste with a pallet knife.

While that was set aside drying I painted a clay face with Haute Mess “Bad & Tatted” acrylic paint.

I then rubbed a bit of “C-note” acrylic paint and then “Kiss & Don’t Tell” paint.

Now that the molding paste had dried I applied a coat of “Bad & Tatted” Haute Mess acrylic paint

I then glued the clay face on and applied some Haute Mess glass bead gel liberally to the edges and fanned it out. I also rubbed a bit on the face itself to give it a little texture.
